The words of an old hymn have been running through my head today: "Give thanks, with a grateful heart because of what the Lord has done for us." My family is very grateful today that my Uncle Jim is recovering from a very serious infection that nearly went to his brain on Friday. It was a difficult day, hearing the news at work, driving to my parents house (where my sister was home by herself fielding calls from my frantic Aunt since my parents are currently in Italy), trying to reach my parents in Italy and telling my mom (Jim is her brother) the news, and hearing updates as the day went on. My uncle has very serious back problems and last Friday had a surgery to test a possible implant of a device that would be able to help with the pain. Two trips to the emergency room later due to puss coming from an area on his back, my uncle was admitted into the hospital and put into intensive care due to the fact that the infection had spread to C2 of his spine (the last point before the brain). Long story short, they performed surgery, removing 2 inches of bone from his spine just below his neck where 1 full cup of liquid came out. Thankfully he is not experiencing paralysis (a possible outcome of this surgery)and the doctors believe it is a staph infection. Very serious but he is doing well and even talked to my sister today.
Once again, I give all of my thanks to God for my uncle's recovery. He still needs lots of prayers for continued health and for the incredible back pain he experiences on a daily basis. We have very grateful hearts today...
